David has been the lead singer in Yes.
He has been replaced by Jon Davison (Glass Hammer).
See main page for more.
David is the lead vocalist in Mystery (SoundCloud page). The
band is based around Michel St-Père (guitars, composer,
keys) and David (vocals). Their next album, with a working title of The World is a
Game, is due
early 2012. St-Père
was mixing and adding final parts to the album in Jan 2012 and
said on Facebook on 23 Jan, that they had finished 5 out of 6
pieces. On 2 Feb, he said the album mix was "almost done",
although he was still working on two pieces into mid-Feb.
Also on the album are Nick D'Virgilio (ex-Spock's Beard, Big Big
Train, Sonic Elements, ex-Genesis, ex-Tears for
Fears, worked with Chris Squire) on
drums, David Myers
(ex-The Musical Box,
worked with The Samurai of Prog) on keys and Antoine
Fafard on bass and classical
guitar. The band hope to tour in support of the album, including
Europe. Planned tracks (order and final names to be determined)
according to a Jan
2012 Facebook update:
Work took place on the album in Apr/May 2011 with several
Facebook updates from St-Père, e.g. 20 Apr: "In the studio working on the next
Mystery". 9 May: "Just finished another song with Mr. David for
the new mystery, sounds really good." And 29 Apr:
Took a break from studio this
week and been listening to the first 4 songs for the next
Mystery
David was working with St-Père in Sep 2011, when
St-Père also tweeted:
There is a 19 minute song for
the new MYSTERY album, I do not know if it will be 19minute when
it is all mixed but it will be a long one
The main recording for the album took place in Oct: Fafard
recording in London, while D'Virgilio's sessions were all at the
beginning of the month. David finished his vocals for the album on
25 Oct. St-Père said on Facebook on 3 Oct:
DAY 1 Mystery recording
Today 3 songs will be recorded on drums [...] about 30 minutes
of music , one of the 3 pieces is a 20 minute long piece that
might end up being split into a few songs like we did with
Through Different Eye, not sure yet
A Facebook
update on 17 Oct from St-Père had more:
Yesterday I went to Benoit’s
house to give him the latest rough mixes from the album [...]
We are super excited about the album, right now we have 57
minutes of Music, I still need to include a small acoustic
guitar piece (from which the long 18 minute song is based
on) So no matter how we will edit everything, the album
will be around this length
So far we have 6 songs, but probably the long 18 minute song
will be cut into several parts like we did we Through Different
Eyes on One Among the Living.
Drums are all done [...] [Fafard] is already at work in his
London UK studio.
A few other musicians will bring their own sound to the project
as well, Most of the acoustic guitars have been recorded
last week and I think I can keep most of the clean electric
guitar parts I recorded for the demo, and will redo all
Distorted guitars and a few clean parts once I will receive the
bass parts from Antoine.
It is hard to describe the overall sound and mood of the album
right now, but it is definitely Mystery sounding.
Kind of a sad feeling throughout the album, I would think
it is more prog than One Among the Living but I am not the
best to judge this I guess.
[...] the album has to be delivered to the label in December and
we are right on target right now
In a 16 Nov Facebook update, St-Père said:
Their previous album was One
Among the Living (Unicorn Records UNCR-5080, dur. 69
min.s), with Steve Gagné (drums), Benoît Dupuis
(keys), Dean Baldwin (guitar), François Fournier (bass).
Tracks (all music & lyrics by St-Père, unless otherwise
stated):
Samples are available from Unicorn Records. Details in Yescography. Guests on the album included Fafard, Oliver Wakeman, Daryl Stuermer (ex-Genesis, Phil Collins), John Jowitt (ex-Frost*, IQ, Arena; bass), Claire Vezina and Richard Lanthier (April Wine, Close to the Edge). The band played a few live dates in support of the album.
David was singing with tribute band Close
to the Edge (MySpace page), who
perform the music of Yes from 1971-4. The rest of the band were
Richard Lanthier (bass, Moog Taurus, backing vocals), Phil
Charmettant (guitars, lap steel, backing vocals), Simon Mercure
(keys, backing vocals) and Pierre Dragon (drums). Given David's
commitments to Yes, the band went on hiatus and have now
re-emerged with a new lead vocalist and new guitarist.
In the Mar 2011 interview, asked about making a solo album one day, David says, in between Yes and Mystery, he cherishes the dream of doing an album in French.
